Roast Levels - At Home Kit
For those that have asked for help on roasting, I have created this kit for you.
You'll find 900g of green coffee and 3 samples of it roasted on my machine 1kg double-walled drum roaster powered by propane. Roasting on smaller machines (the Hottop) you'll need to make adjustments for the batch size, time delay of heat application, etc.
We will have slightly different methods of getting there, but I think this can help one understand more about the handling of heat.
This is meant to be a learning experiment and nothing more. The goal is to learn how to manage the heat.
I will share my experience in the best way I can on paper. I hope it helps you understand the concept of roasting coffee and at different levels. I'm not trying to win any awards; I'm trying to show you how to control your machine based on experience.
Take notes, have fun and don't forget to cup and document your results. You may not get it right away, but keep at it!
Again, this is not a concrete guide, not a law, not something to live by. This is by no means a 100% accurate representation of what I do, but they are real steps I take at the roaster.
This is not a roast profile, but more specifically--my actual roast operation at the machine. From here you can see how heat management works and even develop your own style.
